“It all begins now.”
Combining art and music together, the Canadian singer and songwriter, Lights is unraveling another track off her album/comic book series.
Lights, the alt-pop phenomenon, has released a music video for her new song, “Skydiving.” The new track will be off her upcoming album, Skin & Earth. Following up her recently released single “Giants” which corresponds directly with issue 1 of the album’s companion comic book series – Skin & Earth #1. The book series is on sale now via Dynamite Entertainment.
Skin & Earth will be the fourth studio album from Lights.
In order to make the world of Skin & Earth as immersive as it, Lights worked on both the album and the comic series concurrently allowing the music to inspire the comic and vice versa. She explains, “I feel my whole life has lead up to a project like this. It’s a complete convergence of everything I love – music, comics, post-apocalyptic romance, crystals, wine and powerful ladies, all perfectly entwined.”
The album, according to Lights will be, “by far my most care-free and fierce album yet. I think now, more than ever, people need a reason to listen to a whole record, and this is mine.”
The music video for “Skydiving” mirrors what she did with “Giants,” bringing to life a dystopian world that is featured in her book series. But this time around, she interposing behind-the-scenes glimpses of what goes on during Light’s creative process.
“Skydiving” features Lights sitting in a dark room hunched over a computer. Her ideas sparking inside her as she draws, colors and writes inside each comic book panel. While she actively creates the story and world together, she also dives into that world and becomes her own character.
“You caught me skydiving / You caught me high flying / I’m jumping off of the world now / Never stop, never slow down,” Lights sings in airy tones letting the dream like atmosphere come alive as synths crash around her in the background.
