La Femme @ Bottom Lounge (10/21)

I’ve always had an affinity for popular French music.  I find the lyrics mesmerizing even when I can only understand a few words (thanks to my minor in French).  The punk/Krautrock band from France certainly keeps my interest with their eclectic mix of sounds ranging from psychedelic to surf rock.  The beats get you dancing while the voices of both male and female vocalists create a hypnotic sound that can only be described as French indie pop.  La Femme isn’t for everyone, especially those who need to sing along and understand the lyrics they’re listening to, but if you can get past that, you will most likely be taken by their synth punk/surf rock sound.

The French band formed in 2010 in the town of Biamitz, which is near the Spanish border.  The town used to be known for surfing and the beach which you can hear in the group’s music.  The band currently consists of nine members who have released two studio albums along with three EPs.  The first record Psycho Tropical Berlin was released in 2014 and earned the group the Victoires de la Musique – a French award – and they followed up the album with Mystere in 2016.

La Femme is currently on their America Tour and will stop at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge for a performance October 21st.
