London-based band, The Clientele is currently touring the US in support of their upcoming album, Music for the Age of Miracles. The album is due in September 2017, which would be the band’s eighth studio album. The British indie pop band’s music has often been praised for their unique guitar style and cool vocals. The Clientele’s lyrics are heavily influenced by art from the 19th century, referencing paintings in various songs. The Clientele shows a softer side of music that most band never find.
Band members, MacLean and Hornsey both grew up in the same place of Hampshire, England. The two began writing music together while in school. The band officially formed in 1991, releasing a few singles but never getting the attention they were looking for. After the band regrouped in 1997, The Clientele released their debut album, Suburban Light, in 2000. Pitchfork Media gave the album an impressive 9.1/10. The album was produced by the band itself but released under Pointy Records. It would be three years until The Clientele released their second album, The Violet Hour, which paved the way for their career. The United States version of the album featured two original songs, “House on Fire” and “Reflections After June”.
After the release of Strange Geometry, The Clientele announced a special collection of songs from 1991 to 1996 to be released titled, It’s Art, Dad. In 2006, the band brought in their first female member Mel Draisey. On 6 July 2011, The Clientele announced the band would be taking time off to focus on other projects. The band reunited for one night only in March 2014 at The Bell House in Brooklyn. The is currently working a new album and prepping for a nationwide tour.
