Bill Ward, the former drummer and co-founder of Black Sabbath, is selling over 200 pieces of studio and staged gear that the band has used. The shop, which will be open on June 28th, will include full drum kits, drum heads, cymbals and other gear pieces that the artist has used over his career.
Some of the pieces that are featured his first set of Super Zyn cymbals, a set of Zildjians and Ludwig Speedking Kick Drum pedal, He used the Super Zyn cymbals on tour and on the recordings between 1968 and 1971 such as “War Pigs”. He used the set of Zildjians when he played with from 1971 through 1978. He used the Ludwig Speedking Kick Drum pedal used throughout the 1970s. There will be a custom, resonant bass drum head hand–painted with a bat and the word “black” that Ward employed on the “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” tour in 1973. There will also be a 2003 Ludwig kit that was gifted to Ward.
According to the Rolling Stone, in a video announcement, the artist says “”I’ve collected a lot of stuff over the years, and I’m just trying to thin some things out,” Ward says in a video announcement. “Some of this stuff I haven’t played in quite some time – it’s just sitting there … If it’s going to drummers or collectors or whatever, then I’m only too happy. In the video that was released, Ward plays various instruments and talks about the influences he had. In one part of the video he had a pinstriped bass rum head and had stated jazz drummers like Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. With the instruments he shows, he gives a history of where the instruments were used.
