Edgar Wright’s latest directorial effort, Baby Driver, will be hitting theater’s soon. The film is about a gifted getaway driver named Baby who suffers from tinnitus, a ringing in the ears which he drowns out by blasting his own personal mixtapes into his earbuds.
Based on his own work as a DJ in real life, the tracks for the movie were created by Canadian DJ Kid Koala. At a recent screening of the film at the Alamo Drafthouse, Wright spoke a bit about enlisting Kid Koala. Here is what he initially asked of the musician:
“Create for me a completely analog DJ mixing rig without turntables that actually works. Imagine then that you are the character Baby and use the rig that you are going to build for the movie to create key remix tracks for the film.”
The Alamo Drafthouse is also going to be hosting a handful of special screenings of Baby Driver, featuring Kid Koala as he performs the film’s music live for the audience using the rig he created for the movie.
