“Offer the Light” is not a new track from The Devin Townsend Project but with the release of a lyric video of the song, it has the same effect as if releasing it for the first time.

The Devin Townsend Project started out as a four-album series released from 2009 to 2011 where the Devin Townsend Project would feature a completely different line-up of musicians for each release as well music written with different style. The project, created by Devin Townsend, is back again as they celebrate being named Metal Hammer’s Riff Lord. The ceremony was done last night at the Golden Gods in London. To celebrate the honor, the Devin Townsend Project has released a new video for the song, “Offer the Light.” The song was originally released back in 2016 via his seventh album, Transcendence.

“To celebrate, we are doing a lyric video for a track I had been encouraged to release when the album first came out.” Instead, Townsend decided to go a different route releasing a different song at the time. Now, it seems like the perfect opportunity to bring the song back because according to Townsend, “people seem to really like the song.”

A straightforward track, “Offer Your Light” was written about “trying to look at the positive amidst the ever increasing sea of neurosis-inducing bullshit the world keeps spewing at us.”

The video released for “Offer the Light” isn’t an official music video, not the norm one would see on MTV but instead a lyric based video one would naturally see on Youtube. The video uses visuals as the song lyrics burst through the screen. Lyrics that include; “Offer your light to the way that you’re feeling,” repeat over and over again as they fade in and out of the screen as symbolic images are shown. These lyrics along with dissolving images overlapping one another that includes animals, religious icons, bright lights flashing and continuous shots of a hallway leading to a door. The song opens up with a dancey synth and dives into an almost organic fun ride, a surprise track with a surprising video to back it up.

Townsend is currently in the middle of the beginning stages of writing new music and hopes that it “find home in your listening world.” A home that will look kind of like a new album. In fact, Townsend recently tweeted that there may be more than one new album in the near future. So fans should keep a watchful eye out for more details because you never know what may appear in your Spotify playlist.

The release of the new video, The Devin Townsend Project also has several live shows planned and ready to invade stages throughout the upcoming summer. One of the summer shows include a headline set on the Prog Stage at this year’s Ramblin’ Man Fair in Maidstone, UK.
