Kyle Shutt of the Sword, who with Clutch and Lucero have finished spring tour, announces a metallic cover of The Dark Side of the Mood, titled Doom Side of the Moon, due out on August 4th.
This cover is a tribute to half a century of Pink Floyd since this year marks the 50th anniversary of the band’s debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. The release date will be the same date this debut album was released on, fifty years ago.
With this project, the Sword’s members Bryan Richie and Santiago Vela III will be helping out. Also members of other band’s will be participating in the project such as Brownout/Brown Sabbath’s Alex Marrero, Hard Proof’s Jason Frey and Croy & The Boys’ Joe Cornetti. Stuart Sikes will be helping out with the production and mixing of the album.
According to Consequence of Sound, the artist said in a press release that the idea of doing a cover of the album came when he was high. He stated ““The idea came to me after getting baked and wanting to hear a heavy version of ‘Time’.” He continues saying “I thought, why not just cover the whole album? After sitting down and working out some loose concepts, the arrangement for ‘Money’ materialized and I realized that I could totally do this if I assembled the right band. It felt a little strange messing with someone’s legacy, but I’m treating it as a celebration of one of the greatest bands to ever rock, a party that everyone is invited to.”
The cover of “Money” has been released for a preview. The video itself was created by Ignite Design to represent a laser/light show that will be a part of the album’s live experience. The cover can be listened to below.
