The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is one of those late night shows that always seems to be an event like no other. With every episode made to watch repeatedly on Youtube and clips worth sharing to one’s closet friend with subject lines, “you gotta watch this.” The Tonight Show also features some memorable music performances like in the case of last night. In last night’s show, it was one of those performance moments that is worth repeating.

During the show, Jimmy Fallon introduced the musical guest, bassist Thundercat who was joined together by friends Michael McDonald, a five time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter and Kenny Loggins. The trio gathered on stage together to perform the trio’s hit single “Show You The Way,” from Thundercat’s critically acclaimed new album, Drunk. The silky performance, done with the lights down low, featured Thundercat with his white sandals and shorts that matched his newly dyed red hair. In between the bassist was two yacht rock icons who as the song continued got some big cheers from the audience.

This wasn’t the first performance of “Show You The Way” by the trio. During Thundercat’s performance at this year’s Coachella, McDonald surprised fans by appearing alongside Thundercat to perform the song. His unannounced appearance was hailed by the Los Angeles Times as one of the “10 best performances” at the festival. The Guardian called the performance “a perfect moment in a set that contained slick highs.”  Billboard noted “Who thought that in 2017, 65-year old Doobie Brothers singer Michael McDonald would bring down the house at Coachella?”
