South African rap group Die Antwoord has a unique sound to go with their unique name. The rap group first formed in 2008 by rappers Ninja and Yolandi Visser. Since their beginning, Die Antwoord has 4 studio albums, 2 EPs, and a handful of singles. The group has also appeared in various films in their career. Die Antwoord founded their own label, Zef Recordz in 2011. The band announced their fifth studio album, The Book of Zef, would be their final album. The album is set to be released later this year.
Die Antwoord released their debut album, $O$, a year after the formation of the group. While the album was released free online, Die Antwoord didn’t expect the number of fans the album attracted. The following days, Die Antwoord dropped their first music video for the single, “Enter The Ninja”. Die Antwoord received over 7 million views in a matter of months for the music video. Their music caught the attention of Interscope Records, to which they signed with in 2010. After signing with Interscope Records, Die Antwoord headlined their first tour in 2010. A year later, Die Antwoord left Interscope Records over creative differences. The same year, the group formed their own music label, Zef Recordz. Die Antwoord dropped their second album, Ten$Ion, under their record label in early 2012.
After the release of their third studio album, Die Antwoord went on a short tour across Europe for the summer. When the group got back, Die Antwoord started working on their fourth album. In between working on their album, the duo still found time to focus on other projects. In 2017, Die Antwoord announced their fifth album would be their last.
