Linkin Park has just released a brand new video for their song “Good Goodbye” that features an all-star cast of Pusha T, Stormzy, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington dunking many times. The song stays true to Linkin Park’s classic style. It’s a mix of angst longing, a catchy hook and emotional rap verses.
The video, however, is a little more difficult to interpret. It keeps in line with the basketball theme of their recent song “Battle Symphony,” which was used as the soundtrack to the NBA playoffs highlight reel. The new video takes place in an abandoned warehouse with only a basketball hoop. The world is set in a videogame-like dunk contest to the death run by a seemingly evil warlock version of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Bennington dunks over person after person trying to survive each round of the contest. Finally, a little kid comes in at the end and dunks on him to kill him and end the contest. The video is as humorous and silly as it sounds.
While the new video can be controversial in an artistic sense, Bennington admits that he just wanted to make a video that was fun. “In keeping with the theme of basketball, the video we shot [for ‘Good Goodbye’] features, in my opinion, the greatest player of all time s the emperor of a dunk contest to the deaths in which I have to go up against round after round of dunking on dudes to save my life,” Bennington recently told Billboard for a forthcoming episode of the Ballin’ Out podcast. “I think we’re kind of known for our more serious stuff but this is a fun distraction from being so serious all the time.”
The new song is apart of their brand new album set to drop on May 19th, titled One More Light. Lead single “Heavy,” featuring Kiiara, is currently sitting at Number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart . Their North American tour with rapper Machine Gun Kelly is set for the later half of 2017.
