The Carson, CA native better known as Ab-Soul is embarking on a small tour that will land him back in his home state. With all of his albums garnering commercial success and critical acclaim, the TDE emcee has done a fine job keeping the west coast relevant and prominent in the hip hop conversation. His ambitious lyrics that shine light on politics and inner-city life tell the stories of how it once was, what it is now and the future may hold. For man, we hope the future holds more music from this overshadowed star.
From an early age Ab-Soul was introduced to music. Michael Jackson being one his first inspirations. His Family also owned a record store which he would frequent. Eventually he found himself online on rap forums, “rapping my ass off” as he put it. Online is where he would learn and start to sharpen his skills. His first written verse came when he was 12 when he heard Twista’s “Emotions”. He knew he had the ability to rhyme, so he set off to it. 2007 saw the induction of Ab-Soul into the Top Dawg Entertainment family along J-Rock and of course Kendrick Lamar. Since then Ab-Soul has released four albums and he continues to make guest appearances and produce new music himself.
Seeing Ab-Soul anywhere is a treat but to catch him in his hometown is a true delight. Clever rhymes, honest emotion and an intellectual perspective on social issues takes fans on a ride of both hype and deeper thinking. For a hip hop fan, this a show that you won’t want to miss.
