Austin City Limits Announces 2017 Lineup Featuring Gorillaz, The xx and Chance the Rapper

Probably thought you had this whole “festival” thing figured out huh? Thought you knew all the spots where your favorite artist was gonna be didn’t you? Guess again, lineup announcements aren’t over just yet.

The Austin City Music festival hosted by the weekly music performance television show just announced their lineup for 2017 and there is literally something for everyone. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chance the Rapper, the Killers, the xx and the Gorillaz (who are on a victory lap with their new album) will be the headliners for the multi-weekend festival. You can also expect new and old acts such as Ice Cube, Run the Jewels, Skepta, Spoon, Solange and dozens others to be in attendance as well.

The festival is sponsored by the PBS music performance show, Austin City Limits, which first started airing in 1974, with Billie Nelson as the first on-air act when he was still a young talent. The show eventually grew into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-enshrined program that it is today, hosting acts such as Willie Nelson, BB King and the Foo Fighters.

In 2002, the program was turned into festival form when the first annual Austin City Limits Music Festival was launched. The festival itself is hosted on two consecutive weekends, with artists big and small manning the eight stages for the plus-450k fans that show up. In addition to the music acts, the ACL music festival has an art market that lets local vendors to sell their arts and crafts, as well as an “ACL Cares” portion of the event that gets attendees involved with local and national charities.

As for the headliners this year, ACL did a good job at getting some of the hottest and busiest acts in music for the past year. RHCP are currently working their way through a spring tour along with international sensation/enigma Babymetal while Chance the Rapper doesn’t believe in a day off. The xx are out and about this year with plenty of new music and friends. As for the Gorillaz, well where have you been for the past month?
