Mac DeMarco @ ACL Live Moody Theater 10/1

The one of a kind slacker-rocker, Mac DeMarco, is a Canadian artist that was raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He started his music career in 2008. DeMarco called himself Makeout Videotape, in which he released his first self-made album in 2009. He started working on his solo career in Montreal in 2011. With DeMarco being at the young age of twenty-six, he has sure made a name for himself.

Among the short time period of DeMarco’s career, he has put in a lot of hours in the studio. He has released four albums, a few demo’s and mini LPs. Rock and Roll Night Club was the first mini-LP released, which turned into DeMarco signing with Captured Tracks to put out a full-length record. DeMarco encouraged fans at this year’s Coachella festival to download his newest record that was leaked. This Old Dog was originally set to be out on May 5th. A few of his albums have been named “Best New Music” by Pitchfork.

Fans of Mac DeMarco can say that he has a style of his own in many ways. His music can be best described as slacker rock, jangle pop or psychedelic rock and roll. The use of folky/jangle guitar, vintage synthesizers and catchy lyrics is how DeMarco keeps reeling in his fans. Other than his music, DeMarco has a groovy style in general. Some of his music videos are home-made with a camcorder, you don’t see a lot of artists doing that these days. With DeMarco’s outfits consisting of a 90s-dad’s style, he is not afraid to show his true self to the world.
