Whitney @ Union Transfer 5/22

Chicago-based indie rock band Whitney makes their way to the Union Transfer next month. Whitney is a rising star in the pop world with their unique sound and brand. Whitney released their debut album, Light Upon The Lake in early 2016. The band recently released a new single after almost going a year with new music. Whitney is currently signed to Canadian Records.

After the breakup of their former band, Smith & Western in 2014, Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich formed Whitney. The duo both wrote songs for the band while Julien took over as the main lead. In 2015, Whitney released their first single “No Matter Where You Go”, available to download. Whitney played over 50 shows in 2015, working hard on their upcoming album. Most of the shows were opening acts for other artists. Before the release of their album, Whitney released their single off the album titled “No Woman”. The single set off a chain of events with Whitney touring in Europe and then playing in the 2016 SXSW festival.

On June 3, 2016 the album Light Upon The Lake, Whitney’s first studio album, was released. Songs like “No Woman”, “Polly”, and “On My Own” were huge hits. After the album release, Whitney went on tour in Europe. Whitney has cited various artists as inspiration for their music including Levon Helm.

Donovan Wilkins: Donovan Wilkins is a self-taught photographer and published writer. He lives in Glenside after moving from his hometown of Philadelphia. After studying Liberal Arts at CCP, he decided to focus his time on his writing and photography. In 2016, Donovan completed his first feature-length screenplay, The Coast is Clear. During his career, Donovan worked on a small budget film in Philadelphia as part of a writing team. Since then, he has written various short screenplays.
