If you were planning on heading east this year for the Mysteryland USA Festival, you might want to rethink your plans. Due to “unforseen circumstances,” Mysteryland Fest has unforutnately canceled the event this year, after being located at the original Woodstock site for three years now. The EDM Festival was supposed to be held in Bethel, New York on June 9 and run until the 12 and was basically the haven for top electronic music artists. This year’s lineup featured big names like LCD Soundsystem, Major Lazer and G-Eazy. Run the Jewels, Die Antwoord, and Big Gigantic were also some notable names that stood out on the list this year.
Head to their official website and you’ll see a statment straight from the source. Officials wrote “Mysteryland USA will no longer take place in 2017,” and affirmed that everyone who bought tickets would be getting refunds within the next three to five business days. What they didn’t say, however, was whether or not the festival would be returning next year or even why the cancellation happened in the first place.
Festival curators thanked fans for their unconditional support, and said “since 2014, we have strived to produce the best possible experience for our festival attendees, and are truly humbled by all of the love and support that you, the artists, the beautiful venue of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and the Town of Bethel have shown us as we celebrated life through music, culture and art.”
Mysteryland Festival originated in the Netherlands in 1993 and set up shop in the United States in 2014. Three years ago, headliners included EDM big leaguers Steve Aoki, Kaskade, and Dillon Francis.
Fingers crossed Mysteryland USA comes back better than every in 2018. LCD Soundsystem is still listed on several lineups including the Fuji Rock Festival, Splendour in the Grass, and Pitchfork Music Festival. Major Lazer released new song with PARTYNEXTDOOR and Nicki Minaj called “Run Up” which you can listen to here.
