Supergroup The Damned Things Release Teaser for New Music

Supergroup The Damned Things have just released a teaser via Keith Buckley’s Instagram of what sounds like the intro for a new song. View the video below:

The video is shot from an inside a studio, showing recording equipment and a desktop computer as the song clip plays. The song starts with slow, ambient noises and builds to a strong beat and steady guitar riff. However, the clip cuts off right as the singing begins.

The Damned Things are a heavy metal group comprised of the all-star cast: Every Time I Die’s Ketih Buckley, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley and Joe Trohman, and Volbeat’s Rob Caggiano and Josh Newtown. The band has been inactive since 2012, but Hurley revealed in 2016 that the group had recorded a five-song EP, and the new Instagram post may be a peak into one of those songs.

Hurley spoke to the podcast 100 Words or Less on December 7, 2016 about the EP, but said he didn’t think The Damned Things would be touring upon its release. “I recorded five songs for an EP with The Damned Things — I don’t think we’ll be playing, Anthrax is still touring on their last record,” Hurley reveals. “ETID just put out their new record… uh, who else? Josh Newton, I think, has been playing lately. He tech’d for Joe for awhile; I’m not sure if he’ll be back when we’re back. So you know, that’s all over the place.”

In January, Hurley spoke more about the EP to Alternative Press, explaining it was still in its beginning stages. “While we have more than enough material for an EP, we are still very much in the ‘demo’ phase,” Buckley told AP, “rearranging riffs and trying different things vocally. And though it’s a little too early to say what the next release will sound like comprehensively, we’ve taken a different approach to writing this time around. Things are more atmospheric and weirder. We’ve loosened up a bit and learned to let our major influences speak. In that way, it’s the truest sound we’re capable of.”

The Damned Thing’s most recent album was 2010’s Ironiclast, released via Island Records, which is also their only full-length studio album to date.
