Indie-rock found a new avenue of life in 2008 when Canadian group The Strumbellas were assembled. Comprised of song writer Simon Ward on vocals and guitar, David Ritter on vocals and keys, Jon Hembrey on lead guitar, Isabel Ritchie on violin, Darryl James on bass guitar, and Jeremy Drury on drums. With such a range of instruments The Strumbellas not only command the stage at shows but they also visit much of the sonic range bringing us broad, live, and expressive alt-country music.
With three full-length albums being released since 2012, all being met with positive reviews, The Stumbellas most recent album Hope has been their biggest success to date with the lead single “Spirits” flying atop Billboard’s Alternative Song Chart for two weeks in May of 2016. The band would go on to perform the song on the Steven Colbert Show as well as at the NHL Heritage Classic in Winnipeg during intermission.
Since the summer of 2016 The Strumbellas have been an international tour and they will be dropping anchor here in Los Angeles on May 22 at the Fonda Theatre. The show comes during the last leg of their tour which will come to an end in Australia in the early summer.
