The past, future and present will illuminate the stage at the Santa Barbara Bowl on April 18. The British electronic mainstay New Order and Minnesota synth-pop melody molders Polica come together for what is sure to be a memorable performance in between Coachella weekends. New Order has been recording music and touring the world since 1980 and was heralded as one of the most influential bands of that time. Throughout the New York club scene, they incorporated elements of of dance rhythms and instrumentation. 1983 saw the release of their hit song “Blue Monday” became the best selling 12-inch record of all time. Fast forward to 2016 and we have yet another New Order album. “Complete Music” was the bands first album that didn’t include founding member Peter Hook (former member of Joy Division) and was well received by both critics and fans alike.
Polica, the Polish word for “policy” that lead singer Channy Leaneagh lends to her philosophy of an unwritten code that that guides the members of the band as they play together. Members Chris Bierden (bass), Drew Christopherson (drums), Ben Ivascu (drums) and Ryan Olson as their studio producer make up the rest of the alternative rock ensemble creating electronic ballads in a dreamy wave length sequence. Polica has released three studio albums since 2012 with their most recent “United Crushers” in March of this year. Leaneagh described it as “I saw this record as my last chance and wanted it to have a “final paper” feel. They leave no one guessing who they might be or where they might be going as “United Crushers” takes listeners on a powerful journey through life and sound with vibrant horns and thumping drums woven throughout the eerie and chilling synths giving the feeling of “yes, this is who we are, and we’re damn good at it.”
