Sleepy Sun has announced the release of their new album, Private Tales, for June 9 via Dine Alone Records. They have also released a new song off of the album, titled “Seaquest.”
Private Tales is Sleepy Sun’s fifth studio album, following 2014’s Maui Tears, also released by Dine Alone Records. It features the New Pornographers’ Kathryn Calder and Whithorn Singers’ Hannah Moriah on backing vocals, as well as Colin Stewart on production, who also played a role in the producing and engineering for the bands’ previous albums, Embrace and Fever.
Sleepy Sun is made up of guitarists Evan Reiss and Matt Holliman, frontman Bret Constantino, drummer Brian Tice, and bassists Jack Allen and Owen Kelley.
On the new album, Sleepy Sun’s guitarist Reiss has stated, “I appreciate the spaciousness that is left for the listener. I like music that gives them an opportunity to breathe, as opposed to jamming ideas into someone’s ears at all times.”
Constantino has also stated, “This is the longest relationship I’ve had outside of my family. We’ve grown an incredible amount individually over the last 10 years, as has the ‘Sleepy Sun sound’. This record, in particular, was the most difficult to make, by far, mainly for logistical reasons.”
