Tennis @ Mohawk 4/11

Indie-pop duo, Tennis, is making a stop in town this April during their ‘Tours Conditionally’ tour. The Greeting Committee will be alongside Tennis as an opener for the tour. The duo is made up of husband-and-wife Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. They met in 2008 while in a class together at the University of Colorado. The band started in 2010 after they had both graduated and returned back from an eight-month long sailing vacation (hence their love for creating some of their albums at sea).

Throughout the years since Tennis has started, they have released four albums, one EP and numerous amounts of singles. They have always had a ‘70s aesthetic with their music and their style in general. Alaina is on vocals, keys and guitar, while Patrick does guitar and bass. It’s cool enough that they are a married couple creating music, but each of their characteristics complement each other. A lot of Tennis’ songs have a snappy easy-going beat with retro keyboard riffs that Alaina tops off with her choir voice.

Tennis recently released their fourth studio album Yours Conditionally on March 10, 2017. Just like the making of their first album in 2011, Cape Dory, the duo went away at sea again to create this album. The duo kept fans updated throughout their four-month long journey through Urban Outfitter’s blog. The name of the tour coincidentally sounds like the album title. The album consists of ten songs that show off Alaina’s smooth vocals along with continuing their retro pop tunes.
