The Decemberists first-ever curated festival, Travelers’ Rest, has just announced its inaugural 2017 lineup, which will play Saturday, August 12 to Sunday, August 13 at Big Sky Brewing Company Amphitheater in Missoula, Montana.
The Decemberists will headline both days, and the lineup also features Belle and Sebastian, Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires and Real Estate.
According to Brooklyn Vegan, The Decemberists have made a statement regarding the festival, saying “History-minded readers will recognize that the festival is named after the historical site, some few miles south of town, where Lewis & Clark were known to have made camp and put on their own two-day music festival. It received mixed reviews; several critics noted that Meriwether Lewis’s band DySeNtErY, which headlined the event, was “overly morose” and the available food was ‘scarce’ to ‘inedible.’ NOT SUCH, THIS TIME AROUND.”
The festival lineup will perform among two stages at the amphitheater. Tickets go on pre-sale Thursday, March 23 at 10 a.m. Mountain Standard Time (MDT) with the password BITTERROOT, and the full sale begins Friday, March 24 at 10 a.m. MDT. One dollar of each ticket will benefit the American Civil Liberties Union chapter of Montana. Tickets will be available online at TicketWeb and Big Sky Brewing, or in-person at Big Sky Brewing Company and Rockin’ Rudy’s Records in Missoula, Montana.
The Decemberists recently announced a three-night show series to coincide with the 10th anniversary release of their 2006 album, The Crane Wife. The shows will occur at Bowery Presents’ recently opened, 1,800-person capacity venue, Brooklyn Steel from April 17 to April 19. The April 17 and 18 shows are reportedly sold out, but tickets for the April 18 show are still available via Brooklyn Steel. Julien Baker, who is part of the Travelers’ Rest lineup, will open for each show.
Listen to The Decemberists’ most recent release off of the 10th anniversary The Crane Wife re-release, a previously unheard version of “Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then)”, which features lead vocals from Alela Diane.
