Bishop Briggs @ The El Rey Theatre 4/13

The dream started from an early age in a not so cliche setting.  Can you picture a four year old British girl singing Motown and Beatles karaoke at a bar in Tokyo?  So can I.  For Sarah Grace McLaughlin aka Bishop Briggs, this was the beginning.  Born to parents in Bishopbriggs, Scotland (no coincidence here) Sarah and her family moved to Tokyo where she spent her adolescent years until the age of 18 when she made her bold move to Los Angeles.  Here in LA she attended the Musician’s Institute and began her upward trend in the dense fog of the music industry.

In and out of bars and music venues with the stench of stale beer from the three people she would sometimes perform for her break came when an A&R named George Robertson was in attendance at one of her local shows.  George brought Bishop into the studio and immediately recorded and released “Wild Horses.”  The song found commercial success as it cracked the Top 20 on iTune’s Alternative charts and #13 on the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artist charts. She later recorded the single “River” under the new name Bishop Briggs. The song was an instant success skyrocketing to the #1 position on both Hype Machine’s Pop chart and Spotify’s  US Viral 50 and #2 on the Global Viral 50.

Since 2015 Bishop Briggs has done a fine job in keeping her audience happy and her music fresh.  She will be on making a stop in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre on Thursday April 13, just one day before she begins her stay at Coachella.  There’s much to be said about this Winehouse-esque voice and beauty and even more to be heard.
