ROD STEWART w CYNDI LAUPER @ The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino 7/6

The 80s reborn with new tour!

Two of the greatest powerhouses of the 80s join to kick-off an American tour that begins in Miami this summer.

Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper are two of the most iconic figures of the 80s whose music still lives on heavy rotation on many of the radio stations dedicated to playing hits of the 80s, 90s and today.

Stewart, known for rocker-esque styles and raspy vocals, is said to have influenced acts such as Bon Jovi and Mark McGrath. His repertoire includes massive hits such as “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy,” “First Cut is the Deepest,” and “Hot Legs,” topped charts and dropped panties for most of the decade and early 90s.

Lauper is the woman behind the anthem that empowered women and encouraged us to relinquish any shame in enjoying ourselves with “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”  Although it is her most iconic hit, it isn’t her only one. “She Bop,” and “True Colors” were both chart-topping singles whose accompanying videos contained visuals that were way ahead of their time.  For every Lady Gaga or Madonna fanatic, you have thank Lauper.

The interesting thing about the decade known for high hair, bright colors and funky leggings is that many of its icons have shuffled off this mortal coil much too soon.  Michael Jackson, Prince and, most recently, George Michael have made headlines with their sudden, unexpected departures. We are reminded of our own mortality with their passing and a new-found appreciation for their talent emerges that we might’ve taken for granted while they were with us.

For all the 80s babies out there:  Learn from these losses. Those who are still vital and active such as Steward and Lauper should be seen when the opportunities come through.

You never know what’s waiting around the corner …
