Nicolas Jaar @ Pappy & Harriet’s 4/17

It comes as no surprise that Nicolas Jaar, the 27 year old DJ/Producer,  has been and is currently putting out some of the best experimental and electronic dance hall grooves of our time.  The product of a Palestinian-Chilean father and French-Chilean mother, both artists, Nicolas was born in New York with the energy of the arts resonating through his existence.  During a six year separation period in which he and mother moved back to Chile while his father stayed in New York Nicolas experienced the time where he would draw the inspiration and the emotion that was felt through his early work.  Upon his New York return he spent 4 years in the underground dance world where he would craft hiphop inflused house music

Jaar’s debut album Space Is Only Noise was released in January of 2011 and not to much of a surprise, was met with critical acclaim.  Earning him “Best New Music” from Pitchfork and was ranked #1 album of the year by Resident Advisor, Mixmag, and Crack Mag.  After the release, he spent three years touring the album and garnering “Best Live Act” on resident advisor all three years. In 2012 Nicolas put into play an ambitious project called From Scratch.  The live show was a ride through sampling records on the fly he had bought that day and turning into a live concept album.  The show ran for five hours at the MOMA in Queens, NY and was later played again in Denver and Montreal.

His last album Sirens was released in 2016.  Though it did not register on many charts, his unique imagination and creativity shine telling his tale of growth and love through melodies that enhance the dancing soul and spring to life the nature of losing one’s self in digital tube of music where time and place do not exist.  He has since been hard at work as the owner and founder of NYC based imprint Other People that include the releases of Lydia Lunch, DJ Slugo and 12z, just to name a few.  Jaar will be plugged into Pappy & Harriet’s on April 17th as a part of the Coachella Sideshow series.  Bring water, dance loudly, and connect to the infinity of complete release.
