WATCH: Stone Sour Reveal New Album Hydrograd Will Be Released June 2017

Stone Sour just released a video that finally solidified that the release of their Hydrograd album will be sometime in the month of June, seen below.

The video is of a mock kidnapping, where the band meets up with a superfan named Bert. The guys from Stone Sour kept getting asked on Twitter to come to the famous Porto’s Bakery in Burbank, CA and Bert would indulge them in some of their “delectable pastries,” as Front man Corey Taylor puts it. They agreed to take Bert up on his offer and to sign some of his albums for him. However, their intentions were much more convoluted than just that. Once they arrive at Bert’s work the guys end up having the superfan climb into the back of the car and rush him over to their studio. The real surprise was to get Bert to the studio and play some tracks from their unreleased album. Taylor cuts into the video during this segment and reminds viewers that the tracks are for Bert’s ears only and that the music would be “coming soon.” After Stone Sour played the top six tracks for Bert from the new album they sent him home with some signed memorabilia, including a signed drum head that was actually used during the recording of Hydrograd.

According to Loudwire, Hydrograd was recorded with Ruston at Sphere Studios in North Hollywood, CA. Despite Taylor telling Bert not to get too excited for the new material cause it was “crap,” he told BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show that the band “destroyed it” in the studio. He then added, “Not only are the songs good but the energy is incredible, because it has that live vibe. This is not beat detected, Auto-Tuned, pitch-corrected — nothing. It is so badass, it’s not even funny.”

Taylor then goes on to explain what makes this album different than others, saying, “This album is great because it’s got elements of everything. It’s got the heavy energy of the ’80s, there’s punk moments, there’s hard rock moments, all the great amalgam of music. There’s even jazz and hip-hop moments. It’s really, really cool. It’s probably the coolest album I’ve made since the first Slipknot album, let’s put it that way. It’s dope, dude. And, hey, I feel very confident making that statement, because it’s so good.”

Stone Sour is set to tour with Korn this summer in support of the new album. For tour dates see below.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
