Spoon Releases New Song “Can I Sit Next To You” and Announce Summer 2017 Tour Dates

Spoon announced last month that they would be putting out Hot Thoughts, their first new album since 2014’s They Want My Soul. Now Spoon has shared a new black-and-white video single from their upcoming album Hot Thoughts which arrives March 17 via Matador. The single titled “Can I Sit Next to You,” was directed by Marcel Dzama and is meant to evoke an eerie deja vu “glitch in the matrix” vibe amongst its listeners. According to the press release:

“If the new Spoon single ‘Can I Sit Next To You’ feels eerily familiar, like something that’s been playing in the background of your life for the last few months, there’s actually a good chance it has: For the last few months, a campaign of subliminal placements of ‘Can I Sit Next To You’ has seen the unreleased, unidentifiable track being played at various clubs and venues, as American Airlines boarding music, even by the house bands of the ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ and ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’”

In addition to the new single, the band has also announced new tour dates in the United States and Europe. Spoon’s first U.S. date is set for March 6th at the Observatory in Santa Ana, California, followed by an appearance at South by Southwest beginning on March 14th. In addition to SXSW, Spoon will play a number of festivals, including Louisville, Kentucky’s Forecastle, Birmingham, Alabama’s Sloss Festival, and New York’s Panorama. The band has also recently partnered with Spotify for an interesting album art concept called “Aura Reader” which allows fans to generate custom artwork based on their favorite Spoon songs.
