Brooklyn-born hip hop recording artist Desiigner, the rapper behind last year’s ubiquitous hit “Panda”, is going to be performing at The Vic on May 2nd. The artist, born Sidney Royel Sleby III, will embark on his first tour this April. The Outlet tour will hit 25 cities over the course of six weeks.
While he’s yet to release his debut album – the long awaited The Life of Desiigner, release date TBD – he did put out a mixtape in June titled New English. “Panda” being the lead single for the mixtape. The song reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Rap Performance category. Desiigner performed the song at last year’s BET Awards while also being nominated for three awards.
Last February, the trap influenced artist was noticed by Kanye West who promptly signed him West’s own GOOD Music label (under Def Jam). West also sampled “Panda” on his seventh album The Life of Pablo. Desiigner’s music style and voice has been compared to that of Future’s due to their similar sounding vocals; although, Future’s lyrics seem to have more originality.
