The Obsessed Announce First New Album in 23 Years Sacred for April 2017 Release

In 1994, heavy metal rock band The Obsessed, released their third studio album The Church Within. Now twenty-three years later they’re back with their fourth studio album Sacred set to be released on April 7th via Relapse records.

Originally formed in 1976 by lead singer Scott “Wino” Weinrich this Black Sabbath- influenced band combined the elements of doom metal, stoner rock and punk rock. After breaking up and reuniting a total of three times, last March the Maryland-natives announced their reunion on social media. In a statement Weinrich said “All over the world I’ve listened to friends tell me, ‘We want you to bring back the Obsessed,’ so I have decided to resurrect the Obsessed.” This past December they released a re-recording of one of their earlier tracks “Sodden Jackal” originally released in 1983.

“Sodden Jackal” will be featured on the 14-set track-list of Sacred, along with a new single “Razor Wire

Weinrich shared his thought on the album, “I can honestly say, I think this is the best sounding recording of my career, and I am excited to release it on Relapse. This song “Razor Wire”, I have been carrying around the title concept and main riffin my pocket for a couple years. The full song was born after applying real life experiences, with a little wishful thinking!”
