Last year, Canadian hardcore punk band Fucked Up revealed that they would be returning to their “Zodiac Series” in 2017 with a new EP titled Year of the Snake.
Year of the Snake is the eighth release out of the band’s 12-song series they have dedicated to the Chinese zodiac. 2014 gave Fucked Up fans Year of the Dragon and was followed in 2015 by Year of the Hare. Fucked Up’s last official full-length was 2014’s Glass Boys.
Year Of The Snake will be available on CD, digital, and various limited vinyl formats on March 24th. The EP contains two tunes, with the title track clocking in at just shy of 24 minutes. The cover art for the album was created by illustrator Fred Tomaselli and will include a flexi disc holding a techno remix of the title track.
Year of the Snake goes on a dark ‘trip’ as it showcases the use of psychedelics and medicinal plants and the journey of self-care. According to the press release the title track takes listeners on a drop down the rabbit hole stating:
The twenty-four-minute epic title track follows the narrative of a trip with strange instrumentation and electronics held together with the bands own loose interpretation of hardcore punk.
You can also catch Fucked Up live next month at a few dates on the West Coast. Additional dates to be announced soon!
