Justin Timberlake, Sting and Mica Levi Nominated for Oscars

The 89th Academy awards have announced their nominations for Music (original song & score.) The Nominees feature Justin Timberlake, Sting, Mica Levi, Thomas Newman and many others.

In the category of best original song, Pop and R&B singer, Justin Timberlake is receiving his first-ever Academy Award nomination for “Can’t Stop The Feeling” from 2016 animated film Trolls, along with fellow composers Max Martin and Karl Johan Schuster.

Other Nominees for this category include Justin Hurwitz, Ben Pasek and Justin Paul for “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” and “City of Stars” for the critically- acclaimed filmed La La Land staring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling (receiving a total of 14 nominations.)

Two- time Grammy Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda is nominated for “How Far Ill Go” from the movie Moana. And last but certainly not least, fourth time Academy Award nominee Sting and J. Ralph are in the running with “The Empty Chair” from Jim: The James Foley Story

Sting told Billboard, “The stakes are higher when you’re writing about a person who really existed, a person with family and friends you want to honor. He further explained that he, “Curated the song from what [Jim’s] family and friends said about him. It’s their song.”

As for the Nominees of best original score, experimental pop artist Mica Levi of Micachu & The Shapes was nominated for Jackie staring Natalie Portman. Fellow Nominees are Nicholas Bell (Moonlight), Thomas Newman (Passengers), Justin Hurwitz (La La Land) and Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka (Lion.)

The 2017 Oscars will screen live Sunday February 26th at 7e|4p on ABC
