Austra @ The El Rey Theatre 2/9

It seems that now more than ever we all need to look deeply into ourselves and recognize that we have ultimate control over our own happiness and future.  Every now and again a special sound comes around that reminds us this and empowers us to do so.  On January 20th, Austra released their third studio album Future Politics, and it’s an album that both motivates us and brings into light what the future may hold if we pay attention to ourselves and to spread the light.

The band was discovered while performing at South by South West under the name “Private Life” by an A&R with Domino Records.  After playing in a number of shows they learned “Private Life” was already taken, they subsequently changed their name to Stelmanis’ middle name “Austra” which is the name of the goddess of light in Latvian mythology.  Over dark-wave beats weaved by the band’s players, lead singer Katie Stelmanis lends her voice and thoughts that echo’s through our minds and reverberates in our soul in a moving way that lights us all.

Austra will be performing at the El Rey Theatre on Monday February, 9th as apart of their current world tour to promote “Future Politics”, a very fitting tour during this time of extreme transition and uncertainty.  This is a great opportunity to dance, feel, spread the light, free the mind and create a future that represents you and your dreams.
