WHY?, a alternative hip-hop and indie rock band that was founded in Berkeley, California, recently released a new song called “Proactive Evolution”, which will be a part of the band’s upcoming album called Moh Lhean through Joyful Noise Recordings. This release follows the release of the song “This Ole King”, which will also be a part of the upcoming album.

The album, in general, will center around the theme of movement along with many other themes.  This song features mewithoutYou’s Aaron Weiss and also Yoni Wolf’s medical doctors, as the album was written during Wolf’s recovery from a health problem. There will be familiar sounds, arrangement and detail put into the album that Wolf has been known for but there will also be a shift in tone as the artist describes his story. This shift will be a calm and collective tune. This represents how he continued to strengthen with his life even through his fight with the health problem.

The song focuses on the shift as the beats bring out a calm but catchy tune. Along with this type of beat, there is a laid back voice to add on to the idea of calm and peace. In regards to the song, according to the press release, SPIN had said “Proactive Evolution” layers dense imagery over soft flutes and arpeggios, building into a track that’s surprisingly lush given indie-rap kingpin Yoni Wolf’s penchant for deadpan delivery.”
