In 1967 an unsuspecting and somewhat unusual sound begin to boil and soon bubbled over the edge. What was cooking you ask? None other than the fabled “rock and roll group with horns,” Chicago. During the ‘70s and ‘80s, the band put together a string of hits that catapulted them to the top of the Billboard charts, ranking them second only to the Beach Boys in singles and albums chart success. Chicago is also one of the worlds best selling groups of all time, amassing over 100 million records sold.
With all the negativity and sadness that surrounded 2016, Chicago enjoyed a year of revival, success, and the prestigious opportunity to be enshrined in immortality as they were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame on April 8. In December the band also premiered its documentary Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago on New Years Day, as it was met with numerous awards and accolades during their tour of film festivals and award shows.
As if it could not get any better, Chicago is on tour and will be at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center February 8 and eventually reaching a culmination when they team up the Doobie Brothers for their North American tour. This marks the 50th anniversary of Chicago as well as the 50th straight year the band has been on tour. Chicago is in a league of its own, a true staple not just in music but an imprint in time and culture, blending generations and genres into an inexplicable career that will be studied and appreciated for years to come.
