After the tragic death of many in the Ghost Ship warehouse fire earlier this month, two families have filed lawsuit against a variety of people who were associated with hosting the party, as reported by CBS San Francisco. The parents of Michela Gregory and Griffin Madden explain that the warehouse property in which the party was held was a “death trap.” These are 2 out of the 36 people who died in the fire. The lawyer that was hired for all of this told CNN, “As a result of the horrific, gross negligence of the defendants in this case, these two young people have lost their lives.”
Specifically, the lawsuit names the building owner Chor Nar Siu Ng, two tenants of the building Derick Almena and Micah Allison, Los Angeles record label 100% Silk who sponsored the event, the performer that night Wisconsin DJ Golden Donna and the landlords of the neighboring properties who supposedly allowed the partygoers use their electricity and bathroom facilities.
Both lawsuits do not specify on the damages. However, the lawsuits do describe the venue as a “maze of makeshift rooms”, the lawsuits further describing the atrocious conditions. “Electricity was supplied through a hole in the wall between the Ghost Ship and the adjacent structure… cords and cables snaked throughout the Ghost Ship, and electrical boxes were installed by unlicensed contractors, including Almena himself.” Furthering this thought, “carvings, mannequins, paintings, artwork, scraps of wood,pianos furniture, tapestries and at least one recreational vehicle trailer.. Were kindling for the fire.” There has been no criminal charges in connection with the fire yet.
