Last June Christina Grimmie was shot to death by a crazed person at one of her post-concert meet-and-greet events. Christina Grimmie at 22 years-old was a former The Voice contestant who gained a large fan-base and became a well-known singer. The incident took place at the Plaza Live Theatre in Orlando, Flordia.
Furthermore, Grimmie’s immediately family has filed a lawsuit against to promoter AEG Live, the venue owner the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Plaza Foundation, and the security firm hired to work the event. The lawsuit claims this incident was a wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress. The lawsuit provided by her family states, “failed to provide adequate security measures” furthering, “superficial bag checks.” The family claims that previous events held at this venue had extensive security measures. The lawsuit claims that her killer, Kevin Loibl, entered the Plaza with two 9mm handguns, two magazines and a hunting knife. After he shot Grimmie, Loibl was tackled by her brother Marcus and killed himself quickly.
Grimmie’s family had moved to Los Angeles to support their daughter’s career. Upon the move, Grimmie’s earning supported her parents. Therefore, after the tragic incident they not only lot their daughter but their main source of income. The lawsuits asks for recovery of future support Grimmie would’ve provided her family, her projected after-tax income had she lived to normal life expectancy and reimbursement for medical and funeral bills.
