Red City Radio @ Mohawk 1/22

In an interview with Oklahoma Indie Now, the members of Red City Radio self-described their sound as this: Waylon Jennings meets Teletubbies. In the most basic terms, you could call Red City Radio a pop-punk band, although they are much more than just that. The bands rough and burly vocals, give off a raw and rustic vibe– making for an instantly recognizable sound.

The Oklahoma 4-piece formed in 2009, when founding member Paul Pendley reached out to drummer Dallas Tidwell on a local music message board. Eventually, the duo recruited members Jonathan Knight and Garrett Dale to complete Red City Radio. Although, Pendley would go on to depart from the group, and be replaced by guitarist Ryan Donovan in 2014. Their most recent self-titled studio album was released in 2015, and would be the band’s debut on Staple Records. Along with the departure from their former label, Paper + Plastick, came a more melodic sound than Red City Radio’s previous efforts. Despite the catchier tone of their latest record, the band has still retained the raw aggression that won them so many fans in the first place.

You catch Red City Radio perform at the Mohawk next month on the 22nd.
