Dallas natives, Power Trip, are a crossover thrash metal band, who’s roots stem from punk rock. Their combination of punk, hardcore, and death metal, make for an abrasive yet addictive sound, and has won them fans throughout the country. Power Trips most recent effort– 2013’s full-length debut, Manifest Decimation –received widespread acclaim from both critics and fans alike.
Power Trip was formed in 2008. The groups beginnings can be traced to a mutual love of New York Hardcore music between lead vocalist Riley Gale and guitarist Blake Ibanez. Both Gale and Ibanez had a presence in Dallas’ hardcore scene. After the split of Gale’s former band, he joined forces with Ibanez– who’s band, at the time, was in need of a new vocalist. Eventually, the two went on to record a demo of songs in friend’s bedroom, which led to the beginnings of Power Trip. Known for their aggressive and intense live sets, you can expect to get more than your money’s worth from a Power Trip show.
Power Trip plays at Barracuda next month on the 5th, kicking off This is Austin, Not That Great fest.
