After eight years of not performing, EDM legend Aphex Twin played his first comeback show in Houston, TX at the Day For Night Music Festival, and according to Pitchfork, once the set concluded, he began selling a mysterious new record at the merchandise stand. With only 500 copies available to purchase, people we chomping at the bits to get their hands on this exclusive piece of rare music. From what online rumors are saying, the A-side and B-side are the same track, albeit different versions. Consequence of Sound had uploaded rips of the two sides but had them quickly removed, leaving only a select few who have heard it.
A 12-inch, blank, white vinyl record was all that was sold, with no tracklist or credits, just the Aphex Twin logo on the front, along with the festival name and date. A rep from the festival confirmed that the record is indeed real, and resale of the record online has already reached $350, and continues to climb.
With an upcoming tour, what will the shows hold? Perhaps more mystery records will continue to be sold at various locations throughout the tour, creating a puzzle of vinyls. However, it does not seem that with our current age of information, it will not be long before the tracks will end up online for everyone to enjoy.
