American Synthpop duo, Chairlift has announced they’re calling it quits. Originally forming at the University of Colorado in Boulder in the mid 2000’s, Caroline Polachek and Aaron Pfenning had an interesting proposition. They formed a band (Chairlift) to produce background music for haunted houses. However, things took a turn for events and ended up differently than anticipated. In early 2007, the band grew by adding Patrick Wimberly and eventually became a girl and boy duo. Slowly rising to fame, the band was opening for big name acts such as, The Killers, Phoenix and MGMT.
However, this morning a statement was posted on the bands Twitter page announcing that they quitting they explain to fans that there will be one last tour of shows in the spring of next year but no dates have been released. Until then, check out the official statement from the band below.
“Dear friends,
It’s been an incredible ten years as a band ad it blows our minds to be able to say that every goal we had when we started recording in 2006 has been accomplished. We’ve been lucky enough to have the sweetest, coolest, most loyal fans an artist could ask for. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support you’ve given us, for bringing us all over the world, for waiting to meet us after shows, for learning the dance moves, and for singing along loudly.
We wanted to let you know directly that Chairlift will be playing our final shows next spring, dates to come early next year.
Patrick will be going on to produce records full-time, and Caroline to make music as a solo artist. The two of us are family at this point, and will undoubtedly turn on each other’s work in the future, but the time has come to take the next step towards where our passion is pulling us.
A huge thanks to Columbia Records, and especially Rob Stringer and Carson Donnelly, for believing in us and our music from start to finish, and on in into the future.
