Garage rock band The Murder City Devils took the groups facebook page to announce the first batch of dates for their upcoming West Coast tour. The band’s original lineup consisted of Spencer Moody, Dann Gallucci, Derek Fudesco, Coady Willis and Nate Manny. The Murder City Devils was formed in Seattle, Washington in 1996 out of the cities political punk scene. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1997 and followed by Empty Bottles, Broken Hearts in 1998 recruiting Leslie Hardy as their full-time keyboard player. After a short break, the band released In Name and Blood in 2000 which was followed up with the Thelema EP in 2001, but in the midst of touring the ablum keyboardist Leslie Hardy left the band. Later that year the band broke up due to circumstances surrounding Hardy’s departure.
In an interview with San Antonio Current vocalist Spencer Moody opened up on the band breaking up and his thoughts on what it’s like to be back together. Moody said “In the first incarnation, we were really ambitious and we were really working towards something, and we were really trying to set this thing up for ourselves that could sort of be a springboard for the rest of our lives. And we really knew that we needed to not fuck it up, and we were really trying to do a good job. Now, we benefit from that and it’s really cool. In the beginning, it was hard for us to get along. It was hard for us to see that we needed each other. Because when you do something like that, everyone has an over-inflated idea of their contribution. And then when it goes away and you see that that band, it was all of us, it was all of us together, and that’s the only way for it to exist.”
According to the band this is just the first set of dates for 2017 with more tour dates and venues TBA.
