Part J-Pop, part Heavy Metal, but all-girl encompassing group Babymetal have not only taken their bizarre mash-up of the two genres by storm in Japan, but by America too. While the ladies known as Babymetal continue to tour and promote their wildly successful sophomore release Metal Resistance, the trio has garnered the attention of the kings of hair(ish) metal, Guns N’ Roses.
As GNR continues to cash in on their long-awaited and now evidently fruitful reunion, they have decided to add on an additional five shows in Japan — a subsequent “mini tour”. Babymetal is on board for four of the five gigs. This will be GNR members Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan’s first time visiting the country in a decade, and according to Consequence of Sound,
“The J-pop metal trio will take the stage with GNR for four shows across the country in January. ‘I am really happy that we’ve been confirmed as support on the upcoming Guns N’ Roses tour,’ the band’s Su_Metal said in a statement. ‘And it’s happening in Japan!! We’re going to create a live performance that shows how wonderful Japan is together with everyone in the audience on that tour.’
The dates are the first of 2017 for GNR’s Not In This Lifetime… tour, which has already raked in an ungodly $112 million in ticket sales. Add the hottest young metal revolutionaries to biggest rock legacy act there is, and these Japan shows are sure to be massive.”
