Google, apparently, took a cue from the likes of George Harrison and Bono with the recent announcement of the search-engine/mega-tech mogul’s very own music festival. The aptly named “GOODfest” is an “innovative” take on the generic music festival circuit. This is a festival created to promote, what else, but good…or is it goodness?
But, as the saying goes…nothing in life is free, and Google in cooperation with GOOD will use the “digital music festival” to promote the company’s new Pixel phone.
According to festival representatives, “GOODfest is presented by GOOD and Pixel, a phone by Google, in collaboration with major artists and innovative nonprofits to highlight signs of progress around the globe. GOODFest redefines “benefit” concert into a new social impact platform connecting artists and people around causes through music, culture, and technology. Each show will rally support for a nonprofit organization through a combination of ticket sales, and online and text donations. In addition, GOOD will raise mass awareness for the causes via its editorial platform, sponsored content, and media partnerships.
Every GOODFest show will be live-streamed on YouTube Live and Facebook Live with limited capacity for in-person attendees.”
All the fun is slated to start on November 29th 2016 in New York City, where Glass Animals is billed with group of supporting artists at BAM Cafe. Following the Glass Animals’ performance for “Generosity” comes a December 9th performance for “Humanity” from Gogol Bordello in New Orleans, at The Music Box, as well as a December 12th gig for “Earth”, from Hip-Hop up-and-comer D.R.A.M. in Seattle, Washington, at Neumo’s. Still yet to be announced are two more festival locations in San Francisco and Los Angeles (Who will it be?).
Further comments from coordinators of the upcoming GOODfest state, “Google is working with GOOD to deliver a digital festival through its powerful technology, including the new Pixel phone. Each GOODFest concert will be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook to audiences across the world, with a GOODFest experience filmed for virtual reality distribution on Google’s new VR headset Daydream. The Pixel will be used to capture photos and behind-the-scenes content, highlighting its superior low-light capabilities. All show content will live on goodfest.live.
‘We’re thrilled to develop innovative programs like this with GOOD that continue to blur the lines between creative, media and technology. With the launch of GOODFest, we’re continuing to re-define what content and captivating experiences mean for tomorrow through the use of digital festivals and virtual reality today. Our work with GOOD, their platform and their audience is integral to the success of the program.’ – Eddie Revis, NA Director, Partnerships + Emerging Media”
