Street Sects @ The Sidewinder 12/7

Austin natives Street Sects will be playing a very appropriate show to prepare you for the holiday season– their abrasive, eroding brand of heavily sampled industrial punk, is enough to get anyone into the Christmas spirit. Street Sects is a made up of Leo Ashline and Shaun Ringsmuth, who have been working together for close to 12 years. When Ashline decided to seek help for his self-destructive lifestyle in 2011, he and Ringsmuth decided that they would forego working on music together. Although, that notion was quickly set aside, as the duo began to formulate ideas for Street Sects through two weeks of daily phone conversations. Eventually, after much trial and error, Street Sects was finally born.

In 2014, the duo self-released two 7” singles entitled Gentrification I & II. The idea behind the records comes from Ashline’s experience working as a bartender at a craft cocktail bar on East Sixth St. During that time, he witnessed the neighborhoods gentrification firsthand, and the album’s covers were intentionally chosen to convey the affects gentrification has on certain people in the city.

Street Sects have just released their debut LP End Position– which is also their first record label debut on The Flesner Records –and you can see them at The Sidewinder next month on the 7th.
