Emmy The Great Releases New Song “Rapids”

It feels like a whole slew of recording artists in the recent past seem to all be hung up on releasing a single most likened to a perpetual “summer hit”, even with the post-traumatic stress of Thanksgiving with the WHOLE family just setting in; oh, and the impending gloom of another few months of “holiday merriment” descending. But, hear ye hear ye— for, Emmy The Great effectively opts for something a bit more blustery this winter warmer season (Pina Colada, thankfully not included).

Eight months, and a trip through the ghost of summer’s passed, or is it past? (enter in a pseudo-scrooge reference here), Emma Lee Moss (A.K.A Emmy The Great) gives listeners something close to a follow-up from her March-released “Second Love”. Such a follow-up comes via the brand-spanking-new single “Rapids”.

As some might assumer (but maybe not all), rapids, in general, offer a metaphoric image, or a candid snapshot of some kind of, while, inner turmoil. Get it? Like the unsettled water associated with the word. Cool.

But, as it turns out, according to the stellar peeps at DIY Magazine,“the song reflects on Emma Lee-Moss’s relationship with music, which she says has been her ‘longest relationship.’ So ‘Rapids’ is a ‘love song to music’ itself, although when hearing her singing about tumbling across the crashing waves of the rapids, it doesn’t sound like things have always been smooth sailing.

‘The song ended up being about that tussle with music, about a question I am asking myself now- am I going to keep this relationship going or do I let it go? Could I even let it go?’ she continued. It’s pretty deep. The single also suggests that there will be some more music from Emmy in the near future. “I see it as the right link between Second love and what comes next. Watch this space for more, I guess,” she says.”

So the a-ha moment, or rather music arrives; for, a refreshing take on love and its’ subject matters entreats listeners with something a little less girl loses guy, but gal struggles with her one true love: music. Let’s see how this story ends.
