Cass McCombs, to put it bluntly, is really cool. High off the August release of the artist’s record “Mangy Love”, comes the unique video for “Run Sister Run”— a climactic dip into the infinity of woman’s rights and welfare.
The footage used for McCombs’ video is both novel and alarming. According to Brooklyn Vegan, the music reel in question is meant to raise awareness surrounding the devastation occurring on the “Highway of Tears”, in British Columbia, Canada.
Over more than two and a half-decades, nearly 50 indigenous girls along a Trans-Canadian Highway have disappeared, or been found murdered, in nearby areas. What’s even worse, is that most of these tragic cases remain unresolved. A dark cloud hangs over the fatal Highway 16, in BC. Yet, up until recently, a rain of silence has come down over the rest of the world.
Enter Tracie Léost and her 115 kilometer run to raise awareness for the disturbing circumstances surrounding the missing and murdered here. In an attempt further the runner’s steadfast intentions, Photographer Rachel Pony Cassells, enlisted Tracie Léost in recreating the run for McCombs’ new video. Hence, Run Sister Run.
