Following the passing of beloved A Tribe Called Quest member Phife Dawg, the group came out of a long time hiatus to make their final album called We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service which released earlier this November. Fans were able to listen to the late rapper’s newest material and fortunately for us there’s more to come in the future. Phife Dawg’s wife, Desha Head Taylor, announced a solo album set to drop early next year.
“His solo album will be out probably sometime during the first quarter of 2017,” said Taylor. “We’re working on it now,” she said. “He completed his entire solo album before he transitioned, so we’re excited about releasing that.”
The emotional announcement was made during a ceremony in honor of Phife Dawg, where a section of Linden Boulevard at 192nd Street in Queens, Ny was being renamed to “Malik ‘Phife Dawg’ Taylor Way.” The same section was decorated with a Tribe mural earlier this year. New York city council member I. Daneek Miller took to his Instagram to document the ceremony, check below to look for yourself.
A Tribe Called Quest relesed a music video for their song “We the People” that you can watch here. They even performed the song along with “The Space Program” on Saturday Night Live, accompanied by Busta Rhymes and Consequence last Saturday. Last year the group released a 25 anniversary edition of their very first album, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.
Make sure to listen to their latest album We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service and stay on the lookout for Phife Dawg’s solo album in the early months of 2017.
