Cro-Mags Frontman John Joseph and Former Queens of the Stone Age Bassist Nick Oliveri Form New Supergroup Bloodclot

What do you get when you combine some of the best rock musicians of your era into a 4-piece band that is most likely going to create some spine-tinglingly good material? Well if I were talking about the 70s, I would be referring to Led Zeppelin but let’s talk about the modern age! In 2016, apparently the answer is you get Bloodclot.

Bloodclot is a supergroup featuring some of rock’s most well-known hardcore individuals. From John Joseph, frontman of the Cro-Mags to former members of Queens of the Stone Age (Joey Castillo on drums as well as Nick Olivieri on bass) to Todd Youth, the guitarist of renown punk act Danzig. Castillo had actually also been part of Danzig, as well as the desert rock band Eagles of Death Metal alongside Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.

Apparently, these four renowned musicians came together when the Cro-Mags regular guitarist AJ Novello was unable to play a show, so John Joseph asked Youth to fill in. Thanks to the event, the two legends rekindled their friendship and loved the experience playing alongside each other that they decided to bring back Bloodclot, a band that has origins dating back to a Bad Brains tour in 1981. Soon after, Todd began the songwriting process, and Joey Castillo and Nick Olivieri were recruited to join the band.

With a final lineup in place and songs all written and ready to record, Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel offered Bloodclot a huge contract.

Slagel commented that he is “Super excited to be working with these legends! The material is fresh and what you would expect from such an amazing group!” In addition, Michael Alago — a former record label A&R executive and talent scout for over 24 years — also helped facilitate this new partnership, as the newly formed supergroup’s manager.

Bloodclot is planning to release its debut album, Up In Arms, in spring of 2017, with worldwide touring to follow soonafter.
