SXSW has announced the third round of showcasing artists this morning, adding an exciting group of over 200 artists from across the world. Additionally, the days-long multimedia festival in Austin, TX has also announced a new Keynote Speaker: Nile Rodgers. The festival will take place from March 10-19 in several venues throughout Downtown Austin.
Rodgers is a particularly relevant figure this year, as he was the producer behind the late music legend David Bowie’s Let’s Dance. Other notable works by the Grammy winning producer and CHIC guitarist include several songs from Daft Punk’s massive hit Random Access Memories, Grace Jones’s Inside Story and many more.
Exciting names added to this year’s lineup include Death Valley Girls, Pixx, Temples, Beach Slang, Jean-Michel Blais, Cherry Glazerr, Modern English, No Joy, PWR BTTM and Tei Shi. Death Valley Girls recently released an album in June on Burger Records, titled Glow in the Dark and then released a new song “I’m Man Too.” Pixx released a new video in September for her latest song “Grip,”. The time around SXSW 2017 will be an exciting one for psych-rock group Temples, as they will release their latest album Volcano the week before the festival commences on March 10.
Beach Slang was most recently in the news for a bit of negative news, with their guitarist being removed for alleged sexual assault.
