What would the 2016 presidential race be without final input from Marilyn Manson? Well, I guess, incomplete, apparently. For all of the horse-and-donkey show (nay elephant-and-donkey) tactics previously showcased to American voters out there on their cozy television screens, with special thanks to Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton, Manson’s latest gory homage is a little less grope-y, and a little more gruesome.
Manson, king of the goths and something close to industrial rock, plans to share his bleeding, black heart and a new, highly anticipated album with fans, entitled Say10 on the ironic? I think not, Hallmark holiday, Valentines Day (i.e. February 14th 2017). The title track is available for preview today, and appropriately takes a nasty stab (no pun intended) at political candidate and business mogul Donald Trump. To summarize Trump gets his blonde comb-over clad head cutt off. C’est La Vie, baby.
Say10’s expectedly dark and twisted nature stars the music artist himself, however the video’s impeccable carnage is in-part thanks to horror-film alumnus Tyler Shields: also known for directing the slightly, okay…completely, sadistic film Final Girl. Manson and Shields appear to be a match made in homicidal tendencies and political-head blasphemies heaven.
The video in question opens up with Manson in a characteristically dark room. With one hand, Manson holds the bible, with the other he takes a gluttonous-in-manner lick, in an effort to flip the page. Ew. In a not-so-subtle praise to satan, Manson carries on with ripping up pieces of the fervently religious literature. However, it is the final scenes in the title-track’s music video that sequentially display one bloodied knife, in the yet again emphasized hand of Manson (chipped nail-polish and bloated fingers included all included). While the head of, in this case the “former” presidential candidate, Donald Trump is not explicitly shown. One may easily infer that the lifeless, bloody body of a blue-suited “somebody” is the man previously mentioned.
According to fellow music nerds at Consequence of Sound, “Manson — who has previously said he will be skipping out on the 2016 election — is careful to note that the new video is open to interpretation. ‘It’s about the desperate acts of people who believe something that is preached by an unbeliever,’ he told The Daily Beast.
‘Right now we’re in such a state of confusion when it comes to religion, politics, sexuality, and how they all tie together, and it’s being turned into a circus and a sideshow,’ he added, ‘And that’s something that I’ve been described as a ringleader of. It seems like a time for me as an artist, and as an American artist, to make something that causes a new set of questions to arise that aren’t simply statements.'”
While Manson apparently attempts to cover his, pardon my french, ass, because of previously stated choice to remain out and away of public opinion during the trying times inhabiting the presidential race, its evident that the the satanic relic harbors some pretty strong feelings about the country’s current candidates. So go ahead, and interpret that.
