Emarosa @ Dirty Dog Bar 11/12

Emarosa seems to be a band locked in a perpetual progression, not only sonically, but physically as well. Despite having undergone a bevy of line up variations since their inception in 2006, the somewhat post hardcore outfit Emarosa have endured without a hitch in their popularity, still managing to sell out shows to this day. Their fourth effort, 131, was released this past summer, and is the second album to feature current lead vocalist Bradley Walden. The distinct mark left by Emarosa’s former vocalist Jonny Craig has continued to follow Walden throughout his time with the band, however, Craig wasn’t the bands original vocalist either. Craig’s times with Emarosa came and went, as it did with his previous band Dance Gavin Dance. At this point, it’s unfair to draw comparisons between the two.

Versus, Emarosa’s sophomoric debut, was Walden’s introduction as the bands new lead. Although, with Walden not entirely comfortable filling the void Craig left, the record played it safe, retaining much of the bands post hardcore roots, while gradually easing you into Walden’s new alternative/Indie rock polish, which would be further refined on 131.

Emarosa’s days of Jonny Craig and Relativity are a thing of the past. If you’re like me, and your introduction to the group was the ancient Chris Roetter led debut EP This is Your Way Out, Emarosa, in their current state, are completely unrecognizable. Of course, that’s to be expected. Emarosa’s relevancy in this current day in age depend on the type of advancement ushered in by Walden. Accepting Emarosa as the ever-evolving entity that they are, might be the best way for you to enjoy 131.

Emarosa will be playing at Dirty Dog Bar this Saturday, so grab your tickets before they sell out.
